The Effectiveness of a Counseling Program Based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in Developing Emotional Security among Preparatory School (Female Students)

Abstract

The current research aims is to design a counseling program based on dialectical behavioral therapy to develop emotional security among Preparatory School (Female Students), and to identify its effectiveness in developing their emotional security by testing the following null hypotheses:



  1. There is no statistically significant difference at the significance level (0.05) between the average ranks of emotional security development among female students in the experimental and control groups.

  2. There is no significant differences between control group and experimental group in developing emotional security Preparatory School (Female Students), the experimental group, equal to or greater than the modified Black ratio of (1.2).


The study sample consisted of (14) female students divided into two groups, the first group (experimental group) whose members were exposed to the proposed counseling program, and the second group (control group) with the same number who were not exposed to the program. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher designed a counseling program according to dialectical behavioral therapy, in addition to adapting the research tool (emotional security scale) consisting of (38). The psychometric properties of the scale were verified in terms of validity and reliability. After that, the researcher implemented the program sessions, which numbered (10) counseling sessions, which were applied for a period of five weeks, at a rate of two sessions per week, with an average session time of (45-60) minutes. Then a post-test was applied and the data were statistically analyzed using the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon tests. The results showed the following:



  • There is a statistically significant difference between the average ranks of the experimental and control groups in developing emotional security, in favor of the experimental group.

  • There is a statistically significant difference between the average ranks of the pre- and post-application of the members of the experimental group for the emotional security scale, in favor of the post-application.
