Abstract

The study (Imamate in Islamic Political Thought) deals with the subject of Imamate in Islam, which is another term after Prophethood. The Imam is the one who is supposed to be obeyed by all Muslims. Imamate is leadership, command, will, and care for the affairs of Muslims. It is thus a great and important function after Prophethood, because the one who undertakes it must have the qualities of the prophets, messengers, and people of justice and religion. Therefore, the Imam was created, respected, and sacred to the people. He is their shepherd, responsible for them, and preserver of their rights and protector of their lives, property, and capabilities. Thus, the function of Imamate has administrative, political, religious, military, economic, and even judicial tasks in some cases to achieve justice in Islamic and human society.
