Abstract

The research presents a study about the semantic and cultural structure of the term ''heart''. This study concerns with the various metaphorical uses of the expression heart in literary Works, religion, philosophy and in the new science since the heart occupies a central part in the human body which is reflected in various meanings for the term ‘’ heart’’. There are many symbolic. Cultural, metaphorical, moral and spiritual, dimensions for the word heart; it is the organ that symbolizes life and it is a linking point between the soul and the body. Therefore, this study reviews a historical and symbolic study for the term heart in different literary, philosophical and religious works.
