Fear of losing a mobile phone (Nomophobia)

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of (nomophobia) (fear of losing the mobile phone among the students of Al-Mustansiriya University), where nomophobia is defined as a set of behavioral indicators that indicate the high levels of the individual’s feeling of fear of losing the mobile phone, whether by forgetting it somewhere or disabling it. Working or walking without it, which may cause a feeling of “discomfort, anxiety and fear of staying away” from the phone, and also “the current research aims to study the differences in the level of nomophobia according to the gender variable (male - female) and specialization (scientific - human), and I used the researcher Yildrim Scale (2014) after she translated and adapted it to the Iraqi environment. The results of the research showed that the students of Al-Mustansiriya University have an average level of nomophobia, and the results also showed that there are differences in the level of nomophobia according to the gender variable (male - female) and in favor of female students. And there were no statistically significant differences according to the variable of specialization (scientific - human), and the researcher extracted the psychometric properties from the validity and reliability, where the scale’s stability coefficient reached (0.81) and (0.78) by the re-test method.
