News values in the radio feature for BBC Extra program and the morning of Mont Carlo regarding local issues
Abstract
The research aims to identify the news values that producers rely on in selecting, identifying and broadcasting feature stories on the Monte Carlo Morning and BBC Extra programs. The research adopted the main question: What are the news values in the content of the radio feature for the BBC Extra and Sabah Monte Carlo programs on BBC Arabic and Monte Carlo International radio stations? To achieve the research objectives of determining the news values in the radio feature, knowing the most prominent types of feature stories, and revealing the ranking of local issues on the two radio stations.
The researcher used the survey method as “an organized scientific effort to obtain data, information, and descriptions of the phenomenon.” and the content analysis tool was based on a purposive sample of episodes of the two programs, which amounted to 524 episodes, 365 for the Monte Carlo morning program and 159 episodes for the BBC Extra program and the most prominent results are:
-The two programs rely on news values in broadcasting stories that deal with local issues.
-The value of human concerns came first in the ranking of values in the two programs.
-Social issues ranked first, followed by security, economic, and political issues, respectively.
