Press coverage of the rise in the dollar exchange rate in the Iraqi press A survey study in Al-Sabah newspaper for the period from 1/1/2023 until 3/31/2023

Abstract

The study aims to identify the extent of press coverage of the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar, by shedding light on the journalistic arts and topics related to the rise in the exchange rate of the dollar presented by the Al-Sabah newspaper under study, and identifying the sources on which the newspaper relied upon to obtain pictures of the rise in the price of the dollar. This study belongs to descriptive studies, and within its framework, the researcher used the survey method, and also used the content analysis tool as a tool for all the required data. The study was also limited to analyzing the content of Al-Sabah newspaper.

The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are:

1- The press release came at the forefront of the technical templates used in the Al-Sabah newspaper under study, followed by the press report, the column, and finally the investigation.

2- Among the topics related to the rise in the price of the dollar, the topics of the rise in food prices came in first place with a percentage of (29.41%).

3- The sources adopted by Al-Sabah newspaper for its coverage of the rise in the dollar exchange rate were mostly self-sourced from within the newspaper, represented by the press correspondent, with a percentage amounting to (11.44%).

4- Al-Sabah newspaper relied on simple coverage in its news coverage, represented by news of a single event. If it came in first place, the structure reached (56.61).

5- Support is the dominant trend in the news coverage of Al-Sabah newspaper regarding the news it publishes regarding the rise in the dollar exchange rate, and it ranked first with a percentage of (63.97).
