Abstract

The research aims to determine what factors influence the professional performance of Iraqi journalists. The researcher adopted the survey method and the scale tool, and a purposive sample of (312) Iraqi journalists working in Iraqi media institutions. The research concluded with a number of conclusions: training opportunities, job stability, the institution’s policy and ownership, personal experiences, and work relationships represent the most prominent factors affecting, Freedom of professional performance for Iraqi journalists.

The weakness of union formations that specialize in freedom and the press reflects negatively on the freedom of professional performance of Iraqi journalists, in addition to the failure of the laws and regulations framing journalistic work in Iraq to keep pace with their international counterparts, and their weak response to the rapid transformations that the press is currently witnessing.

Press freedoms also had an effective impact on the level of competence of Iraqi journalists, the nature of their professional performance, and the quality of their journalistic treatments, in a way that made them part of a troubled press, which led them to fail to fulfill their moral responsibilities towards society
