Abstract

Italy did not have significant power during that period. On the contrary, it was suffering from internal deterioration, due to divisions and disintegration, in addition to economic suffering, due to the Austrian occupation of it. However, it began, through some patriots, to work to unify Italy and obtain... Its freedom, and after Italian unity was achieved in 1871, Italy began to establish its institutions, enter into the international arena, and began to participate with the great powers in political decisions for the sake of international competition. Indeed, it began to have new colonies in order to transfer its problems abroad, and it took control of Somalia and Libya. And then entered World War I.
