Abstract
This research is about an important issue in contemporary Arab ideology, i.e. the problem of heritage and modernity according to both Zaki Nageeb Mahmoud and Fouad Zakaria. On this basis, we clarified both thinkers’ ideas and the most important positions of the Arab thinkers who tackled this problem in terms of several aspects. Some of them resorted to heritage, as a basic pillar for understanding the present. Others conveyed the Salafist position in heritage, yet others tried to reconcile heritage and modernity to solve this problem.
