Main Article Content
Abstract
The research addresses “The Style of Metaphor in the Prayers of Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) in Al-Sahifa Al-Sadiqa.” It aims to elucidate the rhetorical aspects of metaphor as a figurative device that expresses spiritual values. The study relied on an analytical rhetorical method. It demonstrated that Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) employed implicit (concealed) metaphor more than explicit metaphor due to its deeper connotations. This helps the reader use imagination to analyze the texts and uncover the aesthetic and rhetorical imagery within them.
The study also showed that the metaphor usage by Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) is unique because he dealt with metaphor in a literal and profound manner, producing rhetorical meanings and expressions that differ from others. He demonstrated his rhetorical skill in formulating meanings and ideas through the condensation of meanings and also managed to embody and personify semantic connotations to achieve an impact on the audience. Furthermore, metaphor is one of the rhetorical techniques through which the speaker communicates with the listener.
The metaphorical use of words by the Imam (peace be upon him) in the prayers aimed to connect people with the act of supplication, to concentrate meanings in the mind by using words in new meanings not previously known, and to emphasize self-criticism as a communicative and suggestive issue to achieve desired goals, through precise imagery and beautiful expression.
