Abstract

The present study aims to examine the attitudes of the audience in Baghdad toward the media coverage of the Gaza events by Iraqi private satellite channels during the period from October 7, 2023, to October 7, 2024. The research adopts a descriptive and analytical methodology, utilizing a questionnaire to collect data from a representative sample of Baghdad residents. The study focuses on measuring the level of media engagement, evaluating the professionalism of coverage, and analyzing the impact of media content on public opinion and attitudes.

The results indicate that a significant portion of the audience followed the coverage regularly, with a preference for channels that offered analytical and professional reporting. The results also revealed a variation in audience response based on age and education level—young people tended to prefer analytical content, while older individuals showed emotional engagement. Moreover, the media coverage played a role in strengthening public sympathy with the Palestinian cause and influenced audience perspectives toward relevant political and media entities.

The study concludes with key insights into the role of media in shaping public awareness in Iraq and offers recommendations for journalists, media research centers, and policymakers to enhance the quality of media coverage, especially in the context of sensitive humanitarian crises.
