Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development: A Sociological Perspective
Main Article Content
Abstract
Social entrepreneurship is considered one of the important concepts in social development. Many societies rely on such endeavors to address social problems. Social entrepreneurship has emerged as a fundamental tool for achieving development through creating the necessary positive change in society. The main goal of social entrepreneurship is not money, despite its importance in achieving success. Rather, it focuses greatly on a higher purpose: addressing social issues that surface and clearly impact individuals, such as poverty, unemployment, and others. Thus, it serves as an effective tool in achieving sustainable development goals. One of the most distinctive features of social entrepreneurship compared to commercial enterprises is that the former focuses on marginalized and poor groups within society and strives to bridge the gap between those who enjoy exceptional social services and those who lack them. On the other hand, commercial enterprises are primarily focused on generating profits.
Social entrepreneurship heavily relies on new social, developmental models, initiatives, and institutions, making it an important driver of development.
