Church Education and Teaching in the Middle Ages
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research focuses on the study of education and ecclesiastical teaching during the Middle Ages. This period was marked by the emergence of Christianity, which brought about a clear change in social life in Europe. This change was followed by a shift in the outlook on education and its goals, as education is an important partner in Christian teachings. This is particularly true given that Christian education in medieval Europe was strongly linked to religious and moral aspects, focusing on refining the spirit and conscience and curbing desires. Education was also characterized by a strict monastic system and was multifaceted, focusing primarily on religion and the church. Church education, however, played an indispensable role. There is no doubt that education, for the upper classes of society, was the primary gateway to knowledge, power, and access to positions of authority. Over time, the education system evolved to reflect the values and practical needs of society at the time. This research will detail the history of education and ecclesiastical teaching, its development, and its current influence in the Middle Ages. We will also explore its place.
