Antisocial personality: causes and treatment (A theoretical study)

Abstract

Antisocial personality disorder is a mental disorder, and this term is often used frequently in criminal and judicial settings. The diagnosis of this disorder is usually applied in institutions that detain individuals with mental disorders or who have committed crimes or are considered at risk of committing them

Diagnosis is also used within the criminal justice system to identify individuals associated with criminal behavior and a danger to society. In the past, this classification was limited to those who committed serious crimes such as murder or rape, but today it includes any individual associated with the criminal justice system who raises societal concerns due to their association with the concept of antisocial behavior

 Although there is no precise definition of antisocial behavior, we can describe a person with this disorder as a manipulative person who lacks a conscience and feelings towards others and is known for his constant violation of social norms and expectations without showing any feelings of remorse or remorse. Therefore, according to the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), antisocial personality disorder can be defined as “a pattern of persistent disregard for and violation of the rights of others, beginning in early childhood or adolescence and continuing into adulthood

In this research, the researcher presented a historical overview of the development of the term, then discussed the traits and characteristics of the antisocial personality, diagnostic criteria, its main and sub-types, its causes, then examples of it, then clarification of the relationship between the antisocial personality and alcohol and drug addiction, then about that personality in the digital environment, and finally treatment of the antisocial personality.
