Establishing and Developing the Service of Electronic Reference in the Central Libraries of Iraqi

Abstract

This Study aims at upgrading the traditional reference service into an electronic one. It diagnoses any problems or obstacles that may face the upgrading process. Now that the internet service is provided to libraries, this study emphasizes the provision of other services/ equipment . the main findings of this study include:1) The electronic reference service already exists in the Central Library of Baghdad University. The service is provided via:a) Electronic Mail.b) Electronic site.c) Contact Us service.d) Ask the Librarian of the Reference Section service .e) Electronically archived CDs.f) Online service .2) Expert systems are not applied to the three libraries .This Study recommends :1) Establishing an electronic reference service within the libraries of Baghdad University and University of Tochnology. This leads to the proper investment of computers. 2) To guarantee the quality of service, applying the expert systems in evaluating the reference of University libraries
