Abstract
The study examines the concept of the patriarchal system as defined by Palestinian critic Hisham Sharabi. It also examines the origins of this system and its relationship to modernity, it’s most significant manifestations in education, culture, politics, and language, and how this system has had a significant impact on the reality of Arab societies. It also examines the underdevelopment these societies experience and how this system is at the root of the renaissance they experience.
The research aims to shed light on one of the contemporary intellectual approaches that addresses the problem of backwardness and underdevelopment in the Arab world from a perspective different from the prevailing approaches in Arab thought.
