Cultural Mediation: Short Story English into Arabic

Abstract
The present reasearch explores cultural mediation through the classic short story (The Gift of Magi) written by O. Henry. The translator faces a work full of cultural and moral values within the lines of the story. The research tends to analyze the story based on a descriptive qualitative approach to give more details about what is behind the story culturally. The results show that in order to translate and assess any work, particularly literature work. It is important to have cultural knowledge alongside the language competence of the target text. Evualtiong texts should not based only on linguistic features as well as extra-linguistic features to render and maintain the original value of the original work.
