Abstract

Present research aims to find out the effectiveness of the strategy Initially - Response - Evaluation and the strategy Thought - Pairing - Participating in the achievement and retention of students in the second stage and curiosity in the subject of practical physical optics. To achieve the aim of the research the zero hypotheses are formulated and then an experiment implemented for an entire semester, which is the second one. The research population was the students the second stage of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Education at the University of Mustansiriyah for the academic year (2012-2013). The research sample is selected deliberately and its number (43) students. The equivalence between the research groups is ensuring through the variables (Age in months, Previous knowledge and the Curiosity). The researcher prepared by herself the experiment requirements that involve a construction of an achievement test since there is no suitable one serves the research purposes. Where a (30) test items have been formulated, (26) of them was objective of the multiple choice sort because it has a high degree of stability, not affected by the autonomy of the debugger, provides good coverage of the material of study and determine the result of a high degree of intended learning. However (4) items was of the essay type to measure the higher levels of thinking. The validity and test reliability have been insured in addition to preparing a scale for (curiosity) which consisted of (40) items and its Psychometric properties was insured. When the students end their study and practice of all of the laboratory experiments, the research groups have been tested by means of the achievement test and the scale of curiosity. Data analyses shows the superiority of the first experimental group (which studied the article in accordance with the strategy Initially-Response-Calendar) and students of the second experimental group (that study the article in accordance with the strategic Thought-Pair-Participated) over the students in the control group who studied the same material in the usual way normal in the achievement, retention and curiosity. In view of these results a set of recommendations and special proposals have set up so as to be useful in other educational institutions, such as universities, institutes and suggested that subsequent studies to complement the current research
