The open source systems optimized to work in the Iraqi university libraries environment: a comparative study between the systems that have been scientifically tested

Abstract

The present study aims to work a comparison between the automated systems open source open Source studied and experience in the Iraqi university libraries environment by local researchers in The competence of information and libraries, in order to identify the most efficient system and optimized to work in the Iraqi university libraries environments in several criteria light, conducted the study survey of the systems studied was then a comparison of the three major systems are (Greenston, Javaisis, KOHA). The comparison process included the evaluation of systems according to specific criteria and then give the digital alternatives assessments in order to see the advantage in terms of access to the program operations, his inauguration, applications, and interfaces, and technical specifications. The study concluded that: 1. The most appropriate systems to work in the library is a system (KOHA) as the floor (23) out of the standard (26). 2. in the second-ranking system comes (JAVAISIS) after the floor (21) out of the standard (26). 3. In the third-ranking system (the Greenstone) comes as the floor (20) out of the standard (26). The study recommended the adoption of KOHA as a unified Iraqi university libraries thanks to its specifications are almost identical with the most international standards under the programs studied system.
