Abstract

Listening to the radio or radio stations is one of the most prominent current problems faced by an important means of the media represented by the radio in light of the technological developments in the field of digital media and the emergence of social networking sites and the public’s connection to these sites, especially among the youth segment, which led to the weakness and decline of habits or behaviors of listening skills to the radio by the audience. In previous years, radio was the important means for the audience along with television in obtaining news, information and developments around the world, as well as the function of entertainment and enjoyment that the radio achieved for the listeners.

Hence this scientific study came to know and measure the listening habits of the public, especially the youth segment, in listening to the radio in light of the emergence of social networking sites. Quickly, the sender and receiver exchanged roles, and what was known as (citizen journalism) appeared.

This study comes in three sections, as the first topic included (the methodological framework) the research problem, the importance of the research, the objectives of the research and the scientific method used in this study and its tools, as well as defining the fields of research and the research community and its sample to reach the results of the research. As for the second topic (the theoretical framework), which will be in four axes, the first is to define the emergence and development of radio in the world and in Iraq, and the second axis is about the characteristics of radio, while the third axis will be about the functions of radio, and the fourth axis will be about the types of radio stations.
