Employing public relations practitioners for social media platforms to confront crises in government institutions (the Department of Citizen Affairs and Public Relations in the Iraqi Council of Ministers as an example

Abstract

The use of social media platforms by public relations practitioners in government institutions represents one of the modern strategies that have been resorted to due to their communication advantages in the speed of communication and communication with the public with the aim of convincing them of the content of the institution’s message and goals, in addition to clarifying the future goals of the institution and expressing its plans to confront the crises facing the government institution. This is the basis for this research to address the issue of the use of social media platforms by public relations practitioners in the Department of Citizen Affairs and Public Relations in the Iraqi Council of Ministers (*)By following the survey method and relying on the questionnaire tool to know the opinions of practitioners and reveal their trends and the priorities of the platforms that are used, the research sample reached (150) individuals, following the comprehensive inventory method. The researcher reached several results, the most important of which were:

  • Facebook is the site most used by public relations practitioners, followed in second place by the YouTube platform.
  • The phrase (speed of communication and communication with the public) as the most important motivation that public relations practitioners resort to for using social media platforms.
