Narrative distance in the Holy Quran (Surat Yusuf as an example)
Abstract
Narrative studies are considered one of the most important literary studies in the modern era, due to the importance that narrative represents in human existence. Through narrative, peoples were able to communicate with each other, and through it, communication was achieved between previous and subsequent generations. Narrative reflects the various aspects of humanity. Therefore, God Almighty used it in the Holy Qur’an, as an important and essential means of conveying the meaning and purpose of the Qur’an. Through it, He achieved the goals of guidance, reminder, admonition, and understanding. The Holy Qur’an used many narrative methods, each varying according to the desired purpose, and this is what prompted us, like others, to The researchers decided to delve into the analysis of a small part of those narrative uses available in the noble text. The study limited the investigation into how to move in the narrative position and determine the distance between the one who sees and the one who speaks according to the concept of narrative distance proposed by Gerard Gnette in his book (The Discourse of the Story: A Study in Method), which Determine the ways in which narrative material is conveyed by determining the distance between the narrator and the characters and the textual relationship that links them to the narrative text.
