Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines antithesis as a structural and semantic mechanism in the Iraqi prose poem , one that goes beyond more lexical opposition to reveal the internal confliuct within the textual structure and its relationship to a tense human reality . Antithesis reflects the contradictions of modern life and the Iraqi context marked by wars , alienation , and ruptures , thereby functioning as an aesthetic and cognitive element in shaping poetic vision . The study also highlights meaning and activating the reader , prompting an interpretive engagement through its various patterns – existential , temporal , spatial , and psychological . It demonstrates that employing antithesis endows the text with semantic density and artistic tension , enriches meaning , and opens the horizon of reading in a manner consistent with the nature of the prose poem as a poem of meaning rather than meter . consequently , antithesis is shown to be an aesthetic and cognitive strategy that transforms the text into an open dialogic space between text and reader , reinforcing the specificity of the Iraqi prose poem and affirming its effectiveness within the achievement of modern poetry
