Abstract

The evolution of the British consular activity in Syria of the sixteenth century until the beginning of the nineteenth centuryThis study revolves around research in the following themes:First: the beginnings of the British consular activity during the sixteenth century.Second, the growth of the British consular activity during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.Third, the British consular activity in Syria and the Ottoman position than in the early nineteenth century.The study showed that commercial interests are Balinclaiz came to the Orient. The focus of these interests through the many privileges obtained by England from the Ottoman Empire, on the basis that Syria is part of the Ottoman Empire. The privilege is a door that carried him to England to the east and set up a special economic interests in Syria. And that these privileges are documents that were cited by England in the installation and Guenaslha ambassadors and members of the Levant on the ground relied upon to intervene in the affairs of the Ottoman Empire of the Interior.The study also demonstrated that the activity of the beginnings of the British consuls in Syria was Bahrafhm to the commercial interests of their citizens and facilitate the conclusion of commercial treaties and their implementation with the Ottoman Empire.
